German retail sales unexpectedly fall

(Sharecast News) - Retail sales in Germany unexpectedly declined in August, according to data out on Tuesday from the Federal Statistical Office, falling for the fourth time in five months.
Sales fell by 0.2% over the month, following a revised 0.5% decline in July, Destatis reported, missing the consensus estimate for a 0.5% increase.

Food sales were 0.6% higher in August, but non-food sales slipped 1.0% and online and mail-order sales dropped 2.0%.

Compared with August 2024, sales were up 1.8% following a 2.9% year-on-year increase in July.
