(ShareCast News) - Chemicals company BASF has shut down some production facilities in Germany after explosions at two of its plants left several people injured and others missing.
BASF said it was probing the cause of the explosion at Ludwigshafen about 10:30 BST, which resulted in the injuries and missing workers.
It said was shutting down its two steam crackers, large facilities that make important basic chemical components, as well as some other units in response.
BASF's 10 sq km Ludwigshafen hub is the world's biggest chemical complex. It employed about 39,000 workers there.
Meantime, Reuters reported that BASF said four people were injured in a separate explosion at its Lampertheim site about 7:30 BST today.
